Travel Information
About Morocco

Throughout the year, Morocco offers an opportunity to immerse oneself in its western culture. The country has been influenced by various civilizations such as the Arabs, Jews, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors, and later occidental civilizations like the French and Spanish. Their influence can still be seen today. Most of the Moroccan population is Muslim, which makes this a country with beautiful mosques and Muslim monuments and art to appreciate.

The official languages are Arabic and Tamazight, with French widely spoken as a second language and English also understood in most touristic places.

As you walk through the night markets, the world of the Arabian Nights comes to life, and the aroma of oriental spices and the beauty of Moroccan craftsmanship will captivate you. There is a wide range of souvenirs available, including embroidered fabrics, ceramics, jewellery, wood carvings and leather goods. The exclusive argan oil, also known as Moroccan gold, is a real insider tip for those looking for a unique experience.

Morocco’s geography is also diverse. The country’s coastline and the first foothills of the Atlas Mountains are home to vegetation similar to that of the European Mediterranean regions. The Moroccan plateau connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic region, and there are mountainous regions such as the high and middle Atlas, the Rif mountains, and the basin landscapes on the fringes of the Sahara.  Paradise Valley is an oasis at the foot of the Atlas Mountains near Taghazout that is worth a visit.

Additionally, Morocco’s nature offers bubbling waterfalls, surfing, cliff jumping, hiking, quad biking or, of course, camel riding and even snowboarding.

So, discover the diversity of Morocco and experience a different kind of surfing holiday!

Best Travel Time

Morocco offers excellent surfing conditions in the winter months, but even during the summer season, you can still catch some great waves and is excellent for beginners.

The Agadir region boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually, coupled with a mild and pleasant climate, making our surf camps a highly sought-after destination for those seeking to escape the cold winter temperatures back home but also during the summer holidays.

Morocco is a great all year round surfing destination.

Air & Water Temperature

The consistent Atlantic winds keep the area from feeling overly hot, even in the height of summer. Temperatures typically hover around a comfortable 28°C during the day, and while winters remain relatively warm at roughly 21°C, nights can dip down to a chilly 12°C. Precipitation is minimal throughout the year, with the bulk of it falling in December, but even then, it is infrequent. This means that sunny days filled with surfing and waves are practically guaranteed. Water temperatures range from 22°C in summer to 18°C in winter, providing a refreshing break from the warm air.

Surfing
Morocco’s Atlantic Coast

Morocco offers a abundance of activities and is a year-round surfing destination.

The country is situated in North-West Africa on the Strait of Gibraltar and is in close proximity to the European continent. With over 2000 km of coastline, Morocco is bordered by both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The small fishing village of Taghazout is a renowned surfing hotspot located in Southern Morocco. It is 19 km north of Agadir and 153 km from Essaouira.

Morocco can be divided into three regions – the northern area surrounding Casablanca, the central part around Taghazout/Tamraght, Essaouira & Safi and the southern region around Dakhla.

Each region offers well-known surf spots for all levels.

The northern region experiences an average temperature of 30°C in the air and 22°C in the water during summers and 20°C in the air and 16°C in the water in winters. The temperature tends to increase towards the south. The southern region experiences pleasant temperatures of 30°C in the air and 24°C in the water during winter, making it an ideal place to escape the cold season back home.

Morocco offers great surfing conditions year-round with warm water temperatures and consistent swells. The best time to surf in Morocco is between September/October to March, where you will find warm air temperatures and consistent swells.

Morocco has a 1,835 km long coastline with plenty of breaks for all levels, from beginner to experienced surfers.

Some popular breaks near Solid Surf Camps Morocco include, Anchor Point, Banana Point, Devil’s Rock, Killer Point, Crocro Beach, Banana Beach, K11, K12 and Spider.

Flight

Morocco is conveniently located just a few hours flight away from Europe, with the best destination airport being Agadir or Marrakech. Solid provides a free transport from Agadir region.

From this airport, accessing the various surf spots and surf camps is easy, with our surf guiding services available.

Agadir Airport is situated around 22 km from Aourir/Banana Village and approximately 30 km from Taghazout.

For those traveling with their surfboard  we recommend to travel with Ryan Air, Royal Air Maroc or Easy Jet from the European countries.

Marrakech is another option to fly into, located about 274 km from Aourir/Banana Village, and can be easily reached via Easy Jet, Iberia, Transavia and Ryan Air.

To get from Marrakech to Agadir (Taghazout) we recommend to book a taxi or go for the cheapest and most common option a bus. CTM or SUPRA tours are two reputable bus companies and can be booked online. They will bring you to Agadir. From Agadir, Solid Surf House, will arrange a free pick up.
